I found this video clip posted on Brian McLaren’s blog. In it Fr. Elias Chacour, a Palestinian Christian leader, outlines his vision of how Western Christians can best work for peace in the Middle East.
I feel this is a message we need to hear. So often when we see injustice being done, our instinct is to pick sides. But this doesn’t necessarily lead us anywhere near reconciliation and true peace.Yet we Christians follow one who, we believe, had reconciliation at the heart of his life and ministry. “All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation,” says the author of 2 Corinthians 5:18.
Elias Chacour’s approach challenges those who side with the Palestinians by demonising the Israelis; AND it challenges Christian Zionists for whom Israel can do little or no wrong. So how do we respond to this?
